The New Bay Bridge

I was able to go on a tour this last Friday through ASCE. We boated out to the new span and climbed some serious scaffolding. It was raining on and off so I didn't use my SLR the whole time and had to resort to my P&S.
More at my gallery. Enjoy.

I didn't even know there was a "new Bay Bridge" in the works. I can only imagine the orders of magnitude increase in cost from old to new. Nice snaps!
Thanks.

Thanks for the comments.
The tour was taken through Caltrans which was organized through ASCE a professional organization, so I probably couldn't just go out there every day and take the picture. The other things is....I was on the boat when I took it. Right behind me is Yerba Buena Island...the island the bridge goes through before it reaches San Francisco...I imagine there is an area or road over there where I could get a similar shot using some zoom. Given I'm about 30 minutes away...without lovely Bay Area traffic...I don't know how often I'll be able to get out there, but you guys have given me some great ideas...I might try and follow through with.

I just sort of think of it as a replacement span :
Like the San Mateo/Hayward bridge span...
I thought they decided on the new bridge that's supposed to go between the Bay and San Mateo bridge?????
But anyway, I like that same photo the others do that you took from the boat!
I don't live that far away, but it would take me 45 minutes or more in traffic to get out to treasure island to watch the progress.
So, I enjoyed seeing the progress. You were lucky you got to go on the tour!

My pics are of the skyway. The next part is the suspension...and after that there will be a temporary span that will help by pass the existing traffic. It's going to be tricky... I don't think they have it totally figured out yet...but the obvious goal is to have no stopage time.

I'll check that out tomorrow... I'm bookmarking it for now. I'm actually following the Devil's Slide Tunnel project cause it's right near my house...
