Hello to all.
I just registerd and would like some information, Please.
I have a Konica Minolta Maxxum 7 D. (Don't hold that against me)

I read some reviews on the board about the Sigma 24-135mm f/2.8-4.5 Aspherical IF.

"QUOTES from the review.

AF is noisy, cheap finish, zoom ring gets loose with time, very soft at 24mm-2.8f, bad access to the aperture ring.

slow focus compared to HSM or Ultrasonic lenses.

Slow focus. Soft images wide open, especially at infinity - not great for landscapes.
There were also some very positive reports.

Now my question.
Would I be better off opting for a lens like 28mm-? with f2.8-? that has a faster auto focus? Then get a seperate Wide angle lens.

What would you suggest other than buying a Cannon?

Thank you.

    Welcome to DGrin!

I had to do this because someone will. Someone is bound to say, "Yeah, get a Nikon." But, not me, I shoot Canon!

Sorry that I cCan't help you with your K-M question. I'm sure someone else here will though.

As a Minolta film shooter (and lover) I would suggest a f2.8 standard zoom from Sigma or Tamron. You can find good deals on both in KM mount at KEH. After a little peak in KM lens prices after the 7D intro prices have gone soft again. You can pick up a nice 28-75 f2.8 (D) OEM Minolta for 364 dollars, not the build quality or optical quality of their f2.8 Nikon or Canon counterparts but still a killer deal on a f2.8 standard zoom. I'd also get an old 80's vintage Maxxum 50mm f1.7 which while not the sharpest standard lens on the planet has some of the smoothest bokeh of any I've seen. I've long considered taking the plunge into the Maxxum D realm with a 5 or 7D JUST for the STF lens which allows control of defocused elements in a picture at any aperture.
