I love the IR effect but thus far have no idea how to do this. Fantastic photos! Thanks for sharing them.

    Hi Fred,

This is a bit embarassing as I'm somewhat a newbie, but is there an English translation for your IR formula above? :D

    Many thanks!

That second shot is a beaut. Well done.

The Sony F717 IMO is the best for IR and has served me well for a few years. I'm an IRaholic.

The Sony has Night Shot mode.
When you are in this mode the hot mirror is pulled a up out of the way
the camera is now IR sensitive(also turns on ir lights on around the lens...I tape these off).
You need ND filters(sun glasses) to cut down the light to the camera.
I usually use a R71+4x and 8x ND filter and some times a polarizer too all stacked together.
If you have anymore questions just let me know

Also the 717 is one awesome camera too

    Thanks for the look

Thanks for the clarification Fred. I love IR shots and have a Canon 20D but I'm very new to it and have no idea how (if at all) to go about producing IR shots. Thanks again and keep posting the beautiful shots!

can you simply add a lens to get this?

I have a Rebel XT and would love to shoot this, can we?

Is photoshop needed at all or will the camera with some playing around with settings do these types of shots?

    Thanks

just put on an IR filter in front of your lens and youre ready to shoot in IR.

your exposure will just be longer than these sony cameras and some of the leaves might turn out blurry too, but on a calm sunny day, all you'll need is an IR filter and post process the photos on photoshop. thumb.gif

Nice shots. I like the building, but you might want to do a little keystone correction. What a beautiful, nostalgic look, though.

Fred, the second one's a real eye-catcher, slightly surreal. I like it.

    Thanks everyone
Sid most of that look came from LAB is seems to work best for IR...well I think so anyway.
#2 I printed on canvas and I'm real pleased with

Just trying different things in ps for a different look...I hate that green
And still not sure if I want to keep the 717 and/or covert 20D to ir ne_nau.gif

    fred-

    very very nice-

particularly love the touch of color in the second shot-

what davidto is refering to is your buildings are 'leaning' and you need a perspective correction-

if you're using ps put a crop around the pic and then check perspective on the option bar-

click and hold on a corner near the bldg edge and slide that side to parrallel the edge of the bldg-

then when you click on the crop to finish it the edge will be straight (not necessarily always that easy but that's the gist of it)-

Ahh that what he talking about
Yep I see it now I usually use free transform for that...not a good choice?
I also see other things I need to fix but that's the fun

    Thanks

    re free transform-

    I guess it depends-

I would think the perspective crop would be easier if it didn't throw anything else out of whack-
