Went to the local Arboretum to do a senior portrait session.

Loved the opportunity for the backlighting in this shot.

We started an hour and a half before sundown -- looked for shade.

Was a shoot for my best friend's daughter. While she changed -- took a shot of him.

Gotta show'em off while you have 'em :)

Sister was there for hair and makeup support.

Did a fair amount of backlit shots -- I just really liked the light.

Have to develop an eye for the "potential" of a background. This wasn't the most picturesque spot -- but if you arrange things "just so" -- it looks more "flowerful" than it was.

Tried to vary the poses....and the apertures used. Shot with both the Canon 85mm f1.8 and the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 with my Canon 5D. Canon 580ex on camera -- with 550ex in slave mode shot into an umbrella held by her father.

Thanks Dave (and Jim and Halladay). I'm improving -- still have a lot of improving to do....particularly with lighting and posing.
