I have a rebel xt, what could I have done to improve this picture. I was bored and just sitting here, took the lighter and flicked it, took the cam and snapped it with stock settings.

ne_nau.gif I don't see anything sharp in it.

Aesthetically, it's missing production value on the lighter.

I did it in the dark, I only wanted the flame and lighter top to show and not my thumb, hence why I asked what I could have done differently.

let me state this, Im trying to learn and nobody can post anything that helps, just info that has nothing to do with how to correct the image.

Some of the fire pictures were taken outside in the dead darkness.

    I feel your frustration!

Let me state this: the image cannot be fixed. Take the concept, and the feedback, and reshoot it.

    How's that? :D

The slow shutter speed is no doubt responsible for the blur, although it's possible that the lighter is too close to the lens, rendering incapable of focusing (if you did autofocus and it worked, this isn't the problem.) Assuming you want a sharp image, your camera would need to be on a tripod and the lighter held perfectly still for the duration of the exposure.

The way the light of the flame plays on the top of the lighter, indeed anywhere, is not aesthetically pleasing, IMHO. Your opinion may vary. Think about ways to change this. Flash? Reflector? Post?

Ric's right, this is in the wrong forum. I'm moving it to Other Cool Shots.

    Ok here's my .02
Camera on tripod shoot in bright light to get everything correct.

Some how keep lighter still don't hold it in you hand...maybe rubber band.
Maybe shoot with water in background maybe pouring from faucet, cup, bucket.

Use color poster board around the front of lighter to reflect color onto the chrome of the lighter.
Might try playing with flash, dragging the shutter ,shutter sync curtain

These guys/gals like to joke around but they are excellent photographers and do help a lot of usthumb.gif
