So I decided not to go to St. Augustine (125 miles and 1 1/2 hour driving) and went to the Viera Wetlands (10 minute drive).

The first thing that I saw was :uhoh
71574739-L.jpg

The gators behaved but one did give me a come hither look (I resisted).

I checked up on the limpkins and the chicks are growing fast.
71574723-O.jpg

I came across an osprey who had just caught a fish
71574747-O.jpg

The stilts are back in town
71574738-O.jpg

there were some nice reflection shots to take
71574735-O.jpg

The green herons didn't mind posing

Here's one with a Heron Happy Meal
71574734-O.jpg

I even got a shot of one of the smaller birds
71574730-O.jpg

and just to show that I have a softer side :lol4

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Nice series Harry. I do like that first green heron shot. thumb.gifthumb.gif

The weather was suppose to suck all week here. Not much sun..lots of clouds and T-storms. I made a mad dash out to the osprey nest with my fingers crossed early this morning in an attempt to beat the storms. No lightning or rain. I got lucky. :D Does an aluminum boat conduct electricity? rolleyes1.gifumph.gif The osprey were practicing their Blue Angel formation flying today. clap.gif

    Kudos
Excellent series, Harry. I particularly liked the osprey and the green heron with their prey. The gators down there are doing some nasty things, and they are very fast. Watch yourself--and them.

    Hiya H,
I am glad you didn't go to St Aug...(I woke up that morning and was ohhh so tempted to join you,,,) but the weather didn't look good. I want a pretty blue sky when I get there because I will be lucky if I can get there one time before the season ends.

Nice series at Viera. My gear has been collecting dust!! except for the 18-200...use that everyday for baby shots.

Thanks Al. Not to worry about the gators. I had a chance last year to see how fast they can move. I was very impressed and have maintained a safe distance since that time. Why do you think I bought that 500mm? :D

All of these birds in one lousy day???? I can't fathom what you could accomplish if the weather were good, Harry! And all of this while you were keeping an eye out for lustful gators! I wait weeks between bird shots....no gators either. Great series as always! thumb.gif

Thanks Trish. My son will be leaving Thursday so shake the dust off your photo gear. Maybe we can get up there this coming Friday or the weekend.
