Ran a test with an image and found a bug. seen it mentioned elswher too..

Filename is "SHill_20060527_32233325.jpg" in the ITPC data i have keywords "Decking" "Garden" "Belper" "Gazebo"
when I upload the image it labels it with keywords of "Decking" "Belper" "Garden" and "Gazebo SHill"

Why is Smugmug creating a new keyword made from part of file name and last keyword?

I was running a practice before uploading a lot of images and dont want this to happen to them all!??

here is the link to it http://stuarthill.smugmug.com/gallery/1498652
Trapped in my bedroom taking pictures...did i say bedroom? i meant studio!

This is a "feature" not a bug.
That is one way SM automagically creates keywords.
(I can't seem to find the link for it right now).

SM uses the filename ignoring the text "IMG" and numbers.

I have a lot of photos (100+) which start with TOF followed by numbers based on the naming system of my ancient Toshiba camera. If these were public I would have a keyword TOF which was really lit up.

    Annoying to be sure.

Maybe SM should have an option to NOT automatically create keywords from filenames.

What Stustaff reported is still partly a bug. I had a look at his original IPTC data and it's like he described - his last keyword 'gazebo' from IPTC got connected with 'SHill' from the filename creating the following one keyword:
"gazebo shill" instead of "gazebo" "shill" like it should have happend. mwink.gif

@Stustaff: Does this only happen with particular images or all images? Do you see any pattern that could help the engineers figuring out what's wrong? Also be sure to add a post with a short description of your problem and a link to this thread over in the bug-reporting thread, so SM can keep track of the problems reported.

    Sebastian

PS: I like the idea of having an option to choose which data should be scanned for keywords (IPTC, filename or both).

Ok, after carefully re-reading the post I understand the problem now. That certainly looks like a bug to me.

I have the same problem (issues that result from smugmug trying to create keywords from filenames) and mentioned it here
    http://www.dgrin.com/showpost.php?p=315225&postcount=8

as well as here (same problem but for a different reason)
    http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=29871

Hopefully it is on the list of things they plan on fixing.

So for now if I temp change file names before uploading it should fix it?

I wonder what file names of:

    "_SHill_01022003_5342341" or " _SHill_01022003_454355" would create

hopefully they would just Grab the space and add that to the keyword?

I#ll give that a go later and report in.
