Say that fast 3 times :rofl
I have been relegated to family photographer again :rolleyes At least I am getting some shooting in
Last week we attended my wife's cousin's 30th B-day party over near the beach. Pretty nice weather, so we stopped at the wharf for lunch and then took some shots at what used to be the Dream Inn.
Two of my beauties :-) Mrs C and our "little one"...lol (20D, internal fill, Tamron 28-75, ISO200, F7.1)
The surfers were too far away, even for the 400mm + TC. But, many of them had to walk by to get to their cars, or to get to the waves.
400mm + Tamron 1.4X, ISO200, wide open (F5.6)
Let's go surfin' now, everybody's learnin' how.......
Same settings- Owwww this surfboard is making my head flat...LOL
OK now for the party and the pretty people :rofl
Tamron 28-75mm, ISO400, F5.6, 1/100, 580EX as fill or direct w/wide diffuser
B-day girl and pretty guest
Look Ma, pull ups with no hands :
How's a fella supposed to say his prayers with all this noise? :wink
Cute couple 1
Cute couple 2
Like Mother.....
Like daughter
OK, all done....lol You're right most of them are snapshots :dunno But, I did try to compose well and I did watch my backgrounds :uhoh
The more I use this lens and the 580EX, the more impressed I am with the results. Remember, I am not a people shooter :-)
I hope you enjoy these. Any comments or criticism welcome.

Sometimes well-composed snapshots are the best you can do!
I was wondering what you were up to!
I have one week to get my flash technique under control before I shoot a Bat Mitzvah for a friend as a favor! I've never been to a Bar or Bat Mitzvah before either... so that doesn't help. Apparently it's all about the party afterwards!

Great photos and thanks for posting them.
It is fun to take photos at a B-day party.
You get family photos and practice with the camera.

I've just been trying to keep one nostril above the waterline...lol Not much time for shooting though :cry
Good luck with the Mitzvah. All I can say is get some practive in beforehand if possible. Outside with a fill and indoors direct or bounced. Shoot RAW too And don't drink too much at the party. When I do, my pictures come out blurry....

I picked up a most excellent book called "Wedding Photography, Art, Style & Business", second edition by Steve Sint. Among the many jewels of info, it has a section on Bar/Bat Mitzvah's. I picked up my copy at the local Barnes & Nobels.

Thanks Chuck
There were lots of other folks there taking pics. One even had a Sony R1 My wife's cousin was thrilled with these. So that's all that matters to me :

Andy. You were with us in spirit I told my son how much you liked the chowdah in a sourdough breadbowl. So even though we were dining inside the restaurant, he had his chowdah delivered in a breadbowl
I made a conscious decision not to show any food shots in this thread. I didn't want to be responsible for any injuries you suffered while attempting to climb through your monitor :lol
