Going Wide Angle - Final Comments
Alright folks - here's your last chance to give me some comments. Summer is upon us, and its the season of Family Reunions. Mine starts in a week - so I've gotta purchase a super wide tele before the end of the week. My current gear list is in the footer - and I'd prefer an EF Mount lens so I could use it on both my 20D and 5D. Just a preference though. The big debate for me:
Sigma 10-20 v.s. Sigma 12-24
Compared previously (And briefly)
Canon Vs Sigma 10-20 comparison
i kinda feel like this - but I'm not going EF-S
I really would rather buy the Sigma 10-20 and deal with amazingly funky corners on the 5D then to not be able to even put it on my 5D (due to an EF-S mount). So the Canon 10-22 is out for me... But the debate continues in my mind.
True Full Frame Lens (12-24) vs. an APC lens (10-20) which provides better quality. (From what I've heard)
I'm leaning towards the 12-24 (It's in my shopping cart at B&H) But I'm curious to what everyone thinks. Intended use is for Indoor and Outdoor Shots of Large groups of families. Studio lighting will be available around 30% of the shots. Landscapes and Beach Scenes are another interest, and Funky Pictures of Dogs noses - or whatever else you do with a super wide tele...:thumb

I found this from Chris Krueger on DPReview,
"The Sigma 10-20 is not an EF-S lens, but it DOES project an APS-C sized image circle. On a FF camera it will produce a circular image in the middle of the frame. If you crop down to eliminate the black area it will give roughly the same angle of view as a 16mm lens.
It will be rectalinear (not fisheye) at all focal lengths. Fisheye is not a function of focal length, it is a specific lens design.
The Sigma 8mm is a circular fisheye. It will give you 180 degrees angle of view, but it will project that 180 degrees into a circle in the middle of your image.
The widest non-fisheye lens for Canon mount is the Sigma 12-24. After that there's the 14mm primes, the Sigma 15-30, Canon 16-35, Tamron and Sigma 17-35, and Canon 17-40."
It sure sounds like you want the Sigma 12-24mm if you really want something for both camera bodies.

the 10-20 fits just fine - but it definatly isn't made for a full frame camera. But I would primarily use it on my 20D - and then deal with the funky circle on the 5D if I ever wanted a different pixel density I would buy a ton of post processing. - But instead... I just got a check from a client. So I'm going to order a 12-24.
Thanks Ziggy - the Sigma pro.
