Was messing around in ps didn't intend to go this far...kinda addicting (1st photo not much)

Had about 25 layers in the last one
Think I will do a couple more of these and use the 20D to get more detail

    Thanks boogie

    They were color layers
    Open photo>copy layer(ctr J)>make adjustments you want
Then create new layer make sure it's chosen then color

So the grass was a layer a building was a layer the wall was another layer.
    More flexable that way.

You can even color a building in one layer then turn it off
then color the same buliding with a different color to see which version you like.

I'm learning here. Basically I'm layered challenged. I know about adjustment layers so that helps but after that I'm lost.

Did you start with a color picture?
Do you create a copy layer after each adjustment layer?
Were your layer adj. using the channel mixer, selective color or something else? I'm sorry I ask so many questions. :cry

I do much better with written instructions. Could you possibly email me maybe the first 4 steps in detail then I can pick up from there. :help :help :help

I know I'm asking alot and if you choose not to I'll understand. :smooch

Started with IR from the 717
Converted it to B/W (your choice on method)
    Then in Photoshop Image>Mode>Grayscale...click OK

Then hold down the Alt+Ctrl+Shift and N ....this makes a new layer.
You can also just select with your mouse the "creat new layer" icon at the bottom of the layers palette...to the left of the garbage can

It's a good idea to name it if you have a lot of layers
It's defalt name is "layer 1" if you double click on that name you can rename it.

So for the Cincy photo above I had renamed each layer
I had "Freedom Center" one layer "Crew Tower" another layer "Trees" on another layer

Make sure you have the correct layer selcted it will be highlighted in blue then color.

So if I was coloring trees I would select "Trees" layer get the paint brush pick out a nice color and paint on that layer.
Dont worry about being neat you can always get the eraser and clean it up.
Also I never paint at 100% Opacity usually very low...you can always paint over it to make it darker.

I hope that makes sense if not just let me know it's no trouble.
Maybe a tute if anyone else is intrestedne_nau.gif

I like the first one a lot. I think that's mostly because it's a very strong shot, compositionally. Good stuff.

The second one feels artificial. It's not just the coloring. Something about the edges. Your masking, maybe?

The first one is just fabulous thumb.gif

The 2nd one looks straight out of VR video games - wish I could color photos that fabulously!

    Thanks again everyone

Sid Yes I see what you mean it's kinda fuzzy around the edges
I think I applied too much gaussian blur to the sky...was very noisy before the blur(Sony Nightshot)

    Do better next time :D

    Thanks

I was so taken with the coloring that I totally missed that it was an IR and
taken with a F717. When you find a way to eliminate the sky noise with this camera let me know rolleyes1.gif
    it does cause problems sometimes.

Thanks for taking the time to explain your colorization. I understand it but I've never done it! But I will give it a try (maybe on the sailboats).

A tute would be nice iloveyou.gif when you have the time.

    Thanks Fred

I love doing these you get to do photography, photoshop and paint all at the same time.
And every now and then you even get to hang a print on the wall.

    Thanks
