sRGB vs aRGB with Picasa and Nikon D50

I have a D50 and typically use Picasa as an organizer and quick editor for photos. However, I've noticed that when I upload to SmugMug, I lose some image quality. My camera is set on a FINE image quality which seems to be a 1:4 compression ratio. I'm not sure what Picasa is doing with the photo, i.e. is it storing in sRGB or not.

Anybody familiar with this issue?
