Hi Y'all,

I've been doing the 125 mile run to St. Augustine for most of my shooting lately but I still have the wetlands 10 minutes from my house.

The Black-bellied Ducks have returned
73905829-O.jpg

This GBH was faced with the age old question of "should I make it into a belt or just chow down"? I think he choose the lunch option
73905853-O.jpg

I hung out with this osprey a bit
73905858-O.jpg

73905863-O.jpg

until he decided to go for some take-out
73905865-O.jpg

I ran into an ummature osprey hanging out at THE TREE
73905836-O.jpg

73905839-O.jpg

Taking a break from reptile consumption the GBH posed for me.

    WOW!

I attempted to get some "bird with food ala Harry shots", yesterday. Actually, I was attempting BIF shots, but the birds were catching crabs!

I had my 400, left the extender at home (not intentionally).

I will post them, but they are weak compared to these!

    Very cool!

    Harry,

It must be nice to live in such a target rich environment. You always seem to have ample subjects.

And you always post such beautiful examples of the birds in your area!

Thanks Tom. We have around 8 of them at the wetlands. This is the time of the year when they come in to mate and nest. They will usualy have 12-20 ducklings per pair but the casualty rate is very high by the time they migrate away.

Wonderful as usual Harry. I'm looking forward to the shots of the black bellied ducklings. You get some great shots at the rookery but I just love the variety you get at Vierra. Have the Caracara been around much lately? I've got a pic to post tonight for you. I just back from Missouri so I haven't had time to process it yet.

I take lots of bad shots, I just make sure no one ever sees them. :D GBH will eat anything they can swallow. The only time I've seen a snake in the wetlands has been when one was being chewed on by some bird. I would say if you want to be safe from snakes just hang around herons and egrets, rolleyes1.gif

Thanks Nick the rookery is cool but nothing beats the Viera Wetlands/Merritt Island/Orlando Wetlands for the variety of shots. If the black-bellied whistling dicks keep too the schedules of the last two years we should start seeing some ducklings next month.

The caracaras have been flying through and a friend got a shot of them with a juvenile caracara in tow.
