Be nice if the pilot or somebody would at least acknowledge they took off 40 minutes late.

'cause if we hadn't, there might have been some twilight action going on here, instead of almost pure night.

Name the city? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

Not a word from the cockpit about what this guy was up to.

Even though that's a luggage ramp, I'm sure this guy couldn't possibly be a luggage handler, inspecting the structural integrity of my wing.

Delta wouldn't do a thing like that.

Still, worth keeping an eye on the thing. You know, just in case.

    Yessir!

And let me tell you, that's one noisy city. Maybe it's because I didn't get any sleep last night. Maybe I was cranky. But that town is just plain loud.

Oh, and B&H has a very disappointing selection of camera backpacks. Hmmph. Had to buy a shoulder bag instead. And Patch is tipping me towards a rather tasty Gitzo tripod.

    Damn, that store's crowded.

Oh, and by the way, should the occasion arise and you have a choice... definitely opt against this scenario.

That's a runway. The light is an airplane. The big flat thing, that's us. In the runway. In front of the incoming plane.

Honestly, sometimes I wonder what they teach these boys in flight school.

Awesome photos the NY was really nice

Time is money and they do land them very close and sometimes too close.
Working where I work you see aborted landings all day.

    Thanks

I wondered about that. I could see at least four more lined up behind him.

Fred i was sitting (down the back) waitting to take off at Heathrow & we ended up there in the same spot for over an hour. I got bored & since i had a perfect view of the main runways...i started timing the take offs & landings. A plane left ever 1.05 sec & one landed every 57 sec. Give or take 2-5 seconds either side i had no idea they used such close timing.

On a cold winter night we could count 12 lights lined up on the runway.
Had my fair share of close calls working out there too it's way too busy.

Yep I not sure what separation Cincy uses but it's close.
I had planes land on the same runway while we were out there working
One was close but I jumped in my truck drove it to the side

You have to really keep your eyes open all the time
I work on the airfield and that's the only place I work.

Most close calls are miss commutation between controller and pilots and sometimes ground traffic (us)

I also have seen where the planes landing get too close and you see the plane in back do some sort of snake manuver to slow down looks wierd.

    Aha!

That explains it. I couldn't figure out why they weren't better lined up, they seemed to move from one side of the centerline to the other. I guess they scrubbing speed and creating separation. Thanks for the explanation.

Yeah, but you really don't want to do them if you don't have to, especially not on big planes.

I've actually been to fields where there were about 4 (smaller) planes a minute landing and takeing off, it's crazy... The bigger planes are limited as far as how much space and time there has to be between them. And you can always choose to go-around, but it really is a last resort really since it will mess up alot of things when it is buse like that.

well, he's probably seen it alot more than i have lol3.gif and i don't check the mechanic's license, when he says it's fixed, i usually assume fixed.
