The main thing that bothers me about the colored picture is the abrupt color edges. Struggled quite a bit to make them blend smoothly into each other (except for the actual crown border), but not quite reached where I wanted and I was hoping someone knew some simpler/less time consuming technique in PS to blend better.
As for the original picture - it was extraordinary luck. I managed to fire the flash at the precise instant a drop that's bouncing back hit another drop on its way down, thus forming the crown off the surface. Someone up there smiled on my efforts
I truly love the original shot, and I think I know where you were going with the colorized version. To me, the colorized version has too much color competition.
I hope you don't mind, but I reduced the background colors to simplify the already amazing composition to produce this:
First beautiful shot real eye candy
Also no ps expert...I think the shot looks great now the color looks fine
But you might try masking areas you want with the channels palette and tweeking the colors that way
Maybe try blending modes.
Anyway good shot
Fred
Thanks for the suggestions Fred - already tried different blending modes. I've even tried creating another layer on the border with a gradient from one color to the other - which is how I got what I got so far, but too long & painful process Thanks though.

Thanks Ziggy. I understand what you meant by color competition, and in retrospect I was going overboard with coloring looks like. One of the reasons I chose soft colors to begin with is to avoid over emphasis, but I guess I overdid it anyway. I now agree with you in having a uniform color surface - will fool around some more with this idea and see how it fares - Thanks.
The "crown" still didn't have the "pop" I was looking for, so I used the channel mixer a bit on the red of that layer:
(I will remove these if you wish)
Thanks for taking the time to work on it Ziggy. You're right about the pop - Let me see if I can play around with a uniform color surface and the crown border like you did and hopefully the crown tip will stand out more with a diffrent choice of colors as well?
