I was in Berlin a week before the tournament started. The Kaufhaus des Westens was totally into Nike:

    Joga Bonito!

Also, they gave a new meaning to the Brandenburger Tor (which means Brandburger Gate, but when you score a goal in soccer it's called a Tor too in German...):

I'm a Dutchie and i'm officially rooting for our orange lions. But coming Sunday i will be watching the game Brazil -- Australia at a friend's home. There will be supporters of both sides. My dilemma is:
    What country to root for!?

    Any advice? :D
I can't grasp the notion of time.

    in two billion years,
    all I can think is:
"Will that be on a Monday?"

Can't really have dutchies rooting for other teams, but if you have to root for someone besides our team ..... Brazil, definitely.

Are your referring to the word 'to root'? I know that in some English argot it can have a sexual connotation... mwink.gif

Can someone explain how it works to me? A team lost, but they are not out of the tourney apparently. How does that work?

The tournament consists of 2 type of rounds:
    1. Qualification
    2. Sudden death.

    1. Each group (8 of them; A, B, C,... H) has 4 national teams. Each team plays 3 games (against the 3 others). A win is 3 points, a tie is 1 point, a loss is 0 points. The number of points determines the ranking in each group. (When the points are tied, other criteria come into play....)
    2. The number 1 and 2 of every group (16 teams in total) then go for sudden death against each other. 16 teams --> 8 teams --> 4 teams --> final 2 teams --> winner.
I can't grasp the notion of time.

pool play - right now, there are groups of 4 teams per pool and each team in that pool plays the other 3. At the end of those games, the top two teams advance. So, you're not out w/ a loss, but you better do better the next games and hope the other teams loose too! (i.e., speaking of the US w/ home town hero Landon Donovan)

Too bad about the 2-0, but don't let the outcome fool you: the Australian team did show that they can play a good match, and the outcome might easily have been different. It was a fun match to watch.

Did anyone else notice who biased the ref was? Any time we went anywhere near them he blew the whistle. But they full on deliberately trip harry kewell and somehow that isnt a penaltyheadscratch.gifdunno

AND the ref stopped the game with 12 seconds left on the clock.
