Sunset over the River Lea

One of the guys over at the Panasonic forum on Steve's digicam posted a series of cracking sunset shots from Seattle with the lakes and all, so being inspired I went out for a few mins today to see if I could capture something too. Nothing like the lakes and view of the Pacific North West, so I had to make do with the River Lea. 2 shots Taken handheld and at ISO 50, f8 and possibly 1/320 s. Should I have used a tripod instead ?? All comments more than welcome. I couldn't do the pic landscape as its not very pretty on either side of the banks at that specific point.

Cheers

    HarjTT,

First of, these are beautiful. Nice work. I think a tripod would have helped because you could've bracketed the exposures and then blended them in your computer to bring detail to the shadows and turn down some of the saturation. Otherwise, it was a great capture! (You might still be able to do something if you shot these in RAW then you can "develop" two cases...one for the highlights and one for the shadows...and then blend).

    Hi Erich

Thanks for the compliment and the tip to improve the shot - theyre much appreciated. I would never have thought about bracketing the shot I definetly will when I next get the chance. Unfortunately, one of the drawback of my FZ10 is that there's no RAW format - I have all the incam settings set to low and the jpeg quality to high so I'm kind of stuck until I upgrade to a DSLR or digicam with RAW.

    Cheers
