Visiting Hawk

So I'm sitting by the pool on my patio last night with a glass of wine, my dog, and my wife... she says in that order. I was watching a goldfinch in one birch tree and a baby dove in another and moaning that I didn't have my camera outside with me. Then I hear a lot of noise and look up to see two ravens and a little bird chasing a RTH across the sky. They disappeared as I ran inside to get my camera. When I came back out, and without so much as a moment to change any camera settings, the hawk swooped back over the patio and circled once before he disappeared again. So... not technically perfect, but a lot of fun for an evening at home.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Another good one -- and wasn't the light just right? thumb.gif

Now, how about some shots of the goldfinch? :):

But close! Very nice shots! You must be feeling good about them. I know I would!

Thanks Cinda. It was back-lite when I started shooting, but then turned right into the light, and it became gorgeous. I wish it had stayed longer, but I was lucky as it was. I don't know why, but even with the right food the goldfinch won't come by to eat. Maybe later. :): :): :):

Thanks Scott, yes I do feel good about the shots. With a little more time I probably would have screwed up, so I'm glad to have something.

Great shots, Dallas! The lighting really brought out the detail of those wonderful colors. Looks like it was pretty close, too! I use to work in an office with a balcony off my office. There were trees and birds so I started feeding them and had lots of little visitors. One day I had my back to the door and heard something large hit the deck. I turned around just in time to see a large hawk sitting 6 feet from me. I was so stunned (and so were my mourning doves!). thumb.gif

Thanks Ian, but I was only born and raise in Florida; this was in the middle smoggy of Los Angeles. Didn't you notice that our birds are much better looking? :D:D:D:D

Thanks Saurora, he was fairly low, but got higher and out of range. He only stayed for a moment, but when he turned into the light it was spectacular. :): :):

Great work William. You're lucky to get a beauty like this in your backyard.

    Thanks for sharing.

Very nice, William. With wildlife like that in your backyard, you need to keep your camera handy at all times. deal.gif
