While I was waiting for the snow plowes to clear the snow, I had a unique opportunity to be the sole photographer at Mono Lake. Also Had the good fortune to step through the muck up to my shin in cold water ane muck. Found out my hiking boots are water proof! yeah :D

I ended up at night with the snow comming down, tired and no chains, so I just dove into the Best Western in Lee Vining. I wan't even sure of where I was at the time. Good fortune though, I was right at Mono Lake!

    Andy,

Good to hear from you. Mono Lake and Bodie are way too far.......:cry

I will try and think about where you could go......are you looking for ocean, mts. or urban?

Let me know where your at. If possible I might be able to get off a few hours early one day and escort you. Also I met Ian408 on Sat. and he said he would be intersted in meeting you as well.

Sam, two great photos! Did you head in via the South Tuffa State Park?

It's about four and a half hours from the Bay Area to Mono Lake. Highways
108 and 120 are closed for the winter and the next pass open is 50 adding
about 2 hours to the trip. Bodie is about 30 minutes off of 395 (N. of Lee
    Vining).

Gorgeous shot Sam. The framing & exposure are perfect. And the efforts you went through to get the shot make it all the more special. Mono Lake does look like a beautiful place. One day maybe I'll get the chance to visit it.

    All the best

A winter trip out to Mono Lake is not out of the question.

Maybe we can rustle up a few for a weekend photo tour?

Yosemite in winter is also very nice.

    Thanks
Thanks everybody! I'm glad you like them. As you all know I am just a beginner, and I am happy with some of the photos I got. Looks like I might have a whole 10 or so out of 400+ rolleyes1.gif

Love both shots, with a little more love for the second one. The mountains frame this picture off so nicely. The colors are crisp, it is in focus totally, you can almost feel the cold. There is a total lack of any color cast, which most of us get free in snow shots. Even with bracketing. I wished that I could shoot like this clap.gifclap.gifclap.gifclap.gif

    Ahain, Thanks!

I didn't seem to have any color cast, but if I do I can adjust the white balance in RAW, or use the photo filter in Photo Shop.

    Try it.

i made up a tutorial on winter photography tips and in it, i explain how to rid yourself of that ugly purpley color cast often resulting from camera auto white balance.
