....but they saw me before I saw them.

If you look close you can see an ear in the tall plants just behind the jumping doe. That is what I was after, a fawn. I have seen a couple does with fawns in the area lately so hopefully soon I'll be able to post the whole fawn instead of just it's ear :D. Oh and by the way the doe is about 5 feet off the ground in that shot, the plants she is jumping through are about 4 feet tall.

I did get some good bird pics while I was out. I got a couple I haven't been able to capture before.

My first good Tree Swallow:

Can't reach the itch!!!!!!

Then I happened to find my first nest, Orioles. The nest was pretty think in the leaves but you can kind of make it out.

Dad feeding the chicks:

Hurry up and get out before dad gets back!!

I'm free! I'm free! Only one of the chicks could fly and it stretched it's wings for a little bit.

Finally the dad all by himself taking a 5 minute break from the kids.

Thanks for looking!

You are mistaken Harry, this is no ordinary Deer butt shot. It is a DBIF.....Deer Butt In Flight rolleyes1.gif . I was almost ready to climb the tree and get those lousy leaves. I tried from every angle but they were in the way in every shot. The Orioles did their job, the nest was hidden in plain sight. The only reason I noticed it was they were feeding when I walked by the tree and the chirping grabbed my attention, even then I had a hard time finding it. I used a Circ Pol on the nest shots to try to get rid of some of the reflections from teh leaves but I don't think it helped to much. I finally took it off because my shutter speeds were too low and I had the 1.4 TC on the 400 f/5.6 at ISO 400-800 so they were not high to start with. Note to self, put pruners in camera bag.

I know this works while they are migrating but not sure if it works when they are breeding. Stick half an orange on a stick near a perch and they will come. Or you can try grape jelly, that also works. I'm serious, give it a try in an area that you have seen them in and hopefully they will notice it and land on the perch and you have your shot. The only problem is that I believe their feeding habits change when they are breeding so this little trick may not work at the moment. Good luck Dallas, I know you will succeed.
