CNAME, cpanel, and hostname problems - HELP!

I recently changed to a new webhost and have been trying to reconfigure my custom hostname. Previously, I was able to use gallery.swintonphoto.com without difficulty. I asked my new host to set up the CNAME as described in the help documents but it was only working with www.gallery.swintonphoto.com, not without the "www". Here is the response from their helpdesk - does anyone know if there is any way around this?

Alright, this is a limitation in cpanel. The subdomain www.gallery.swintonphoto.com will work fine, and does as you can see by the query above. However, cpanel will not allow the non www, or just gallery.swintonphoto.com to be aliased. The best that can be done, is to use an A record. I apologize for the inconvenience. If this is acceptable, and you want to just use a cname, let us know, and we will set it up.

Currently I have it set to use an A record and it seems to be working fine, but I recognize the pitfalls of this and would feel better if I could get a CNAME working.

Yes, this is what they said they did, however, it would only work with www. in front of the subdomain, not without for some reason.. have you ever encountered this before?

After some frustrating email-tag, I just gave their support a call and they were able to resolve it. :D So it seems the tech I interacted with last night was just a bit confused and it is now functioning properly as a CNAME instead of relying on an A Record. Thanks for listening. thumb.gif
