I took this pic back in early May, so I can't submit it (nor would I, as all the other entries... intimidate me), but I could go back and reshoot as I think I remember the exact spot where I took this. If anything, it would give me a reason to take more photos. ;)

When I saw the challenge I immediately thought of this shot. I think it's kind of cool that it has three types of lamina (as I see it, at least): ivy leaves, tree bark and granite, which is why I originally took the picture.

How would you shoot it? I'm as beginner as they come, so go easy on me. :)

We'll I'm pretty much a beginner as well. But Here's my cent worth.

I would try to shoot at a time when the light is at an angle that accentuates the textures, adds a little shadow and possible some added interest.

I do see the three types of lamina that you are referring to. The great thing about digital (if you're shooting digi) is that you can try many different compositions.

Can't wait to see what you come back with!!

(and I hope you get some more expert advice!)
