Are These Three RAMS The Same?

Everything seems identical except for one thing.

One site describe the memory as being 200 pins. The others don't say anything about the pins. Does that matter?

Are these the same? (The numbers are links.)

Pins matter, so you should make sure that the chip has the right number of pins for your machine. A nice primer is here.

Check with the manufacturer before you buy.

Thanks. I already have the viking memory. But it doesn't seem to fit well. Before I really jam it in, I want to make sure it's the right kind.

Their help line doesn't work weekends, I'll be calling them today.

Even the right RAM will be a tight, tough fit. It really snaps in.

You got an update? You likey? Frustrated? What?

Me likey so far. Haven't yet Photoshopped, nor hooked it up to the big monitor. Once I get the memory in, I'll give in to Patch's promptings and download the trial version of CS2.

    Ok Some ram basics here.

If it's a DDR SODIMM it's going to be 200pins.

SODIMMS come in three main groups.

72 pin (mainly edo some really old sdram)
    144pin (sdram)
    200pin (ddr)

    Those are just general groupings.

Those are all the same from what is listed but honestly only one of them gives the information I personally would be interested and thats option 3. CL=5 which stands for CAS (column address strobe) latency is kinda slow. All the chips on crucial are running CL=3. Now if the ram in your system was already CL=5 to begin with then this is fine. However if you had CL=3 in your system and added in a CL=5 chip you just slowed your ram down. Is it super noticable, normally no, but if I'm looking at spending $10 more to keep all the chips in my system at CL=3 I would do it.

Viking is usually a decent brand although crucial is better :P. Glad you didn't get any of that PNY crap that most the big box places sell. I have more problems with PNY not working in most computers than any other memory brand.

Also when installing the memory it will go into the slot on a slight angle about 45degrees or so, you will feel it grab into place then you will carefully lay it down and snap it into place in the slot. Kinda like the way the OLD EDO would go into a mobo.

    Cool!

And Viking confirmed that it was 200 pins. Which means I need to push harder. Sure hope the snap I'll hear will be a good one!

Read my edited post to make sure your putting it in right. It shouldn't be easy but it shouldn't require alot of force either. Make sure the notches line up, slip it in on an angle, lay it down.

If it's really that hard going in then take a look to find out why. Make sure there are no bent or broken pins on the mobo, make sure the chip has clearance all the way around etc.

I'll pay attention to that, thanks. Not a lot of wiggle room on the Macbook, but I'll take your advice and check everything carefully before proceeding with the arm wrestling.

Mine went straight in and took took a good push to get it to go it, but I did not force it.

Why not post a photo of the new next to the old module?
