Lens or Tripod?

I'm new to SLR photography (two months). I have a 350D with the kit lens. I currently have an old pan and tilt tripod from many moons ago.

Generally, I take photos of landscapes. At times, I have certianly wished I had a longer lens when taking pictures of other things (birds, airplanes). So on that side, I'm thinking lens.

I'm planning a trip to Iceland soon. I guess I'm not sure how well my current tripod will work. I'd like to take and stitch a few panoramic shots when there.

I'm going to try my hand at stitching a panoramic together with my current setup, maybe that will help be decide.

Long story short, I'm looking for other people's opinions on priority for an equipment upgrade.

Thanks!

Depending on the kit lens you have...28 - 70 or 28-200.
If the shorter of the 2, I think I would opt for this......as good a tripod as I can afford and get a 2X teleconver to extend that lens if needed.....
If you are mostly going to shoot landscapes then I wouldnot worry about the tele-converter and add that money to get an even better tripod.
No matter how good the lens, if it isn't stable the pics won't be any good.......this is true for ameture and pro alike.

    Sorry for the bad spelling.
