sub-sub's

Question about my “Power User Account”:

Within a category like “Animals” I have already 14 sub-categories. 6 of those sub-categories are “water birds” and 3 are “land birds”. I make more cense if I could structure this a bit different. Like:

Home page -> Animals > Birds > Water birds > Herons
Home page -> Animals > Birds > Water birds > Egrets
Home page -> Animals > Birds > Water birds > Pelicans

Instead of

Home page -> Animals > Herons
Home page -> Animals > Egrets
Home page -> Animals > Pelicans

You understand if you have a lot of animals in sub-categories, your animal category will be messy very soon. So what I think I need are sub-sub-categories.

There is surely a way to do so but I don’t know how.

Please help me out.

Dick.

You would think so, but no. There isnt. They only allow the breadcrumb to be so deep, like 4 times deep. I asked this here a little while back.

You may have to cut down on one. To do this, I put a direct link in my navbar, so that would cut down on one. For instance, you could put a "Birds" direct link in your navbar & get rid of "Animals." Or, you could keep that & get rid of "Water Birds."

I know that sucks, but its the only way I have found to do it, others may chime in about workarounds, but they seemed like over kill for me. I requested that we be able to make breadcrumbs longer, so we'll see what happens. Cheers...Kerry

Well Kerry thanks for the info. All I can say is: if that's so than so be it.

I have a (Dutch) website about parakeets and maybe I can make some room for getting the results I want. I only need a layout, the pics I can "dump" on SmugMug.

    We'll see.

The way Smugmug works is actually in between the examples you gave.

IE: Homepage > Animals > Birds > Pelicans

There is no way to create an extra depth of sub-categories. Wish i had a better answer for you.

    Thanks!

I can deal with that. Tell me how I can accomplish your sample?

I can go only this far: Home > Animals > ...
and don't know how to get: Home > Animals > Birds > ...

I gather from your response here that you don't realize that you CAN create sub-categories... look at the link ivar provided... In the control panel, you create the sub-category "Birds", under the category Animals. Then you edit the galleries (via gallery customization screen) and set the Category AND sub category for each.

    Problem solved!

Well DMC I was aware that you can create sub-categories but didn't pay attention enough to see that this was the answer I was looking for. I goes ofcourse further than just creating a sub-category otherwise it does not make sense.

So, what i'm saying is that I behaved like a real "user" that did not read the manual.

Thank you all so much for your patience and help.
