Sorry this has absolutely NOTHING to do with photography.:D

But...Does anybody know what triggers spam blockers? I keep trying to send an email to a client and I keep getting an "Email rejected by spam blocker". I had a link embedded but I removed it and it still does not work. This stinks!

Makes me wonder how many emails have been blocked.:dunno Will they always send a notice?

Thanks!

What email provider are you using? Some people for example block gmail adresses even though I haven't experienced it on my own yet.
If your message lands in their spam folder you're most likely not notified. They don't want to tell the sender of supposed spam that there's someone on the other side of the net receiving the spam.

You somehow seem to be an the blacklist of the person's provider you're mailing to. You could try to write the person's provider asking them to remove your address from their blacklist. Other than that I don't know. Maybe try sending the mail with a different address.

    Thanks Sebastian.

I've tried two accounts with no luck. First I tried removing the hyperlink and just leaving the url address with no link but I still got rejected. Then I just removed the url all together and asked him to give me a call (heaven forbid we use a phone!:nono ) - so far so good.

I think I'm more frustrated because I sent ~30 emails to potential clients as an "advertisement" just to introduce our company. Guess that would be considered spam, huh? HEHE! headscratch.gif

Oh well...guess I'll have to do some cold & warm calls!thumb.gif

Hm, which email providers did you use for sending? What's the provider of the recipient giving you so much trouble? Just curious.

My primary provider is .MAC, second provider is through my website, hosted by websitesource.

The email I'm sending to is being forwarded to another email, which seems to be through a school - @khsd.k12.ca.us - I'm sure they're pretty strict.

    Rejection is coming from postmaster@smtp.demosphere.com

There are several possible reasons for rejection. They may not apply to you.

    1. If your message was sent to the 30 people with all of the names in the To: field, it should have been blocked. This is a bad practice. It is better to use the BCC option. That way your customers do not see each others addresses. Also, filters will see only 1 address instead of 30. When they see 30 some instantly mark as spam.

    2. You were caught by a keyword filter. We use a system here at work that grades incoming email. Words like profit, viagra, make money, investment, opportunity, and sexual terms are given point values. If the email contains enough of them it gets rejected. If it has an average score, it gets marked as potential spam and put into a junk folder that the user has to check.

    3. Some systems are set up to only receive from people in the users address book. All other emails are rejected or sent to junk.

    4. Your domain or your account has been blacklisted. Figuring out why it was black listed can be a pain. One of my addresses got blacklisted for a short period of time once. I did nothing wrong. But, somebody that I had emailed in the past got hit with a virus. That virus took my email address and spoofed it to send out spam. The spoofing caused the emails I sent to be seen as spam as well. Luckily the blacklist company figured it out when hundreds of people got blacklisted at once and complained.

    5. The receiver has marked your address as spam by accident. I had a friend do this to me once. I kept sending him stuff he was asking for. I never got it. I finally sat down with him one day and checked his address filter and sure enough I was in there. It was added by mistake when the user fat fingered the mouse key over the "This is SPAM" button.

    6. The address is a k12 network. To protect the students and to prevent liability that school system has possibly locked it down. That way no personal emails are allowed. If it is not school or work related it is rejected.

Any of those are possible. I hope you figure it out.

Looks like they're definately very strict, because you aren't using any freemail provider. I had a short glance at their homepage, but couldn't find any adminitrator contact or something like that to whom you could ask about removing the ban. This is a perhaps just a mistake in their blacklist database.
