Has anyone figured out how to hack the full size slide show yet?

Cliff PhotoCliff Photo Registered Users Posts: 128 Major grins
Hey all I'm wondering:

I really don't like giving the viewer so many options for viewing photos, especially when they have "funny" names like "SmugMug Style". It just seems unprofessional to me. I do however want to offer an option for a slideshow, so I make galleries style specific as "SmugMug Style" and allow for the Full Screen slideshow. Here's the catch:

The resolution of the Slideshow is not up to standard, since I don't feel it is safe to allow access to my originals to the masses. The larges uprezzed just look awful, I honestly don't think they look very prosfessional either. So I'm after a solution.

I want to try to:

A. Best case scenario, find a hack to shrink the slideshow to L size instead of uprezzing.

B. Be able to choose the names for the styles that visitors can see under the drowndown style menu, so they aren't so silly.

C. In addition to B only allow certain styles to be visible on the drop down menu.

D. A solution that works that I haven't thought of yet, but maybe you have! :D

I know for a fact I'm not the only one who would benefit from a solution to this.

I look forward to hearing your ideas!
Thanks

Cliff

this would be better off in the feature request thread...we cant get to the fullscreen slideshow code to hack it so there's no joy down that road.

another option would be to hack together a lightbox slideshow....hmmm.

Why not put your own link in your galleries, that are set to smugmug style, say, a button in the description area. This button, your own button, would take them to the regular slideshow, where you force size large. Seems to be a lot less hassle than figuring out how to hack full screen slideshow. http://www.moonriverphotography.com/gallery/1482997

Andy, thanks for the suggestion. I'm trying it on for size. I thought I had it figured out, but it doesn't work. It just shows the link with no image, and doesn't do anything but redirect me to my homepage. What am I missing? This is what I have in my description box:

    <HTTP: play_slideshow_black.png? sm_buttons SmugImages s3.amazonaws.com>http://www.brunkphotography.com/homepage/templatechange.mg?TemplateID=8&origin=http://www.brunkphotography.com/gallery/1340090"><HTTP: play_slideshow_black.png? sm_buttons SmugImages s3.amazonaws.com border="0">

well, it keeps converting the text into a link when posted so I can't show it, but I modeled it after your example. Do I need to add something besides the html in the description box?

    Thanks

How can I change the link of slideshow button?
    or
How can remove default slideshow button and add my own.

if I point my slideshow link to
    http://www.moonriverphotography.com/homepage/templatechange.mg?TemplateID=8&origin=http://www.moonriverphotography.com/gallery/1482997

does http://www.moonriverphotography.com/gallery/1482997 need to have easy share enabled?
Can I also keep the album to 'Smugmug Classic' only?

If yes, how can I force my album not to show easy share link

    Thanks,
    Things I want from smugmug:
    1. Remove smugmug branding from pro's website.
    2. Link one picture to different albums (don't like to upload the same picture in different album)
    3. Link one album to different categories (not sharegroup)

    Hi Andy,

So using the code as I remarked above I attempted to do the fix you suggested. I placed the code in the description box. It just displayed a text link without a slideshow button, and when you click on the link it directs me back to my homepage, not the same page in slideshow format. I no longer have the code in the description box but I can place it temporarily so you can see the problem or I can give a screen shot if needed.

When I attempted to show the code that I used here it strips out the part that I believe should display the slideshow button image, so I'm unable to show the exact code I'm using, but I did get it from your example, simply changing it to my website's links.

    Thanks for the help!

    Cliff

    Cliff,

Yes, put it back in the gallery so we can see it.

Also, you can post it here on dgrin, too, use this:

    [*code]
    your code goes here
    [*/code]

    ignore the asterisks.

Now I also wonder if there is a way to make a button that will link back to "SmugMug" view that I could place next to the "slideshow" button, so that the viewer could change back when they are done with the slideshow.

I wish to do this so I can choose to not show the drop down box with other viewing choices at all, yet still have some navigation possible.

If I'm not painting a clear picture of what I'm looking for, please let me know, and I can mock up something in Photoshop to illustrate what I have in mind.

I know that I will have to make my own buttons for this which is no problem, as I will be making all of my own buttons soon anyway.

    Thanks Again,

    Cliff

So, I'm not sure what the problem is.
    <html?
    <a href="http://www.moonriverphotography.com/homepage/templatechange.mg?TemplateID=8&origin=http://www.moonriverphotography.com/gallery/1482997"><img src="http://s3.amazonaws.com/SmugImages/sm_buttons/play_slideshow_black.png" border="0"></a>
    </html>

    replace "moonviverphotography" with your website
replace "1482997" with your gallery #
put it all in the gallery description, and boom - done?

I realized that once I tried it and changed it back as well. So I guess my plan to eliminate that "viewer control" box and using my own buttons as navigation won't work then? Or is there a way to eliminate the dropdown menu and still have this work?

    Leave it viewer controlled.

    Add this to your css:

    .gallery_XXXXXX #stylebar {display: none;}

Got it! Thanks Andy, I'm going to work on making the navigation for the "SmugMug Style", and figure out how to get rid of the slideshow navigation dialog box that controls the slideshow to clean things up a bit more. clap.gif
