The trailers on tv didnt look very funny but noticing the good reviews its been getting, i decided to see "Cars" last night. Like on multiple question tests, i should have gone with my initial instinct. :bluduh

The graphics are amazing but everything else is pretty much bland.
Lots of stereotypical car personalities i.e. a dumb rusted hillbilly truck, a militant Jeep who always hung out with a half-baked 70s VW wagon, few ricers overactive with loud music and so on... Severely lacks the wit of other Pixar flicks like The Incredibles and even Finding Nemo (:nah).

An older man next to me dosed off a few times and 4 young guys decided to leave 1/2 through. It was sad seeing the audience WANTING to laugh but there just wasnt anything there. A few laughs and giggles here and there to keep you seated (or awake).

2/5

Hope this isnt Disney influence :uhoh

Rent it if you must or better yet check out The Incredibles or Iron Giant or something...

I saw Cars Friday night at the Drive-In, novel watching a movie ABOUT cars IN a car. For the most part I enjoyed it, although I thought it was going to be a headache fest when they started out with the NASCAR angles and loud road sounds in the opening. There is a reason I am a white person who thinks NASCAR is the WWF of the 80's, and it mostly has to do with all the things illustrated in the opening of the movie. Loud cars, obnoxious people (in the booth, in the stands, and on the track), inconcievable wastefullness, raging testosterone, and over inflated egos. I thought the movie had some cool Pixar touches, like the mountain range shaped like the Cadillac Ranch. I think the brave stance against urban sprawl and the decline of Main Street America will be lost on most younger and older audiences. My 5 year old son thought the tractor tipping was a riot with the 'wait for it' flatulence joke. The end reels were classic and contained a great sendup of John Ratzenberger's PIXAR voice career. I'm not sure if the original poster realizes that Pixar and Disney have always been in bed, and that now Disney just made an honest marriage out the the arrangement. Cars was the last Pixar movie in the pipe before the merger. If you want to see true sad state of what Disney has become have a look at Chicken Little which was a worthless unfunny piece of camel poo. I doubt Disney's sucktitude will have any effect on the culture of creation at Pixar.

like...ALL of my friends went to see it while I was in DC....how nice of them to wait for me, huh? oh well, I forgive them - but they loved it and said they'd go back and see it again with me if I wanted. They talk about it a lot and say how much I'd like it. I think it must be one of those movies where there's two types of people - those who liked it and those who hated it. fortunately, we're all open to our own opinions.

Not true. Recent animated movies are written and directed where kids and adults can enjoy them... and on different levels. Thats how they made those huge $$$ and what makes the 'simpsons' (not the new ones) and 'the incredibles' so good.

But i guess i stand alone on this one :twitch

I saw it this weekend & loved it. I guess part of it was that Pixar is a bunch of gearheads, so I got the jokes (they seem to share some of my soapboxes on car culture). I thought it was one of their better stories. BTW, most of the landscape was some car feature (Lincolns, Cords, etc). Yeah, some of the charaters/car type were obvious, but who would buy into a stoner army jeep? I thought Luigi-the-tifosi was one of the more amusing ones.

You're not alone, mule. There were several levels of humor from stuff for the kids, to insider car-nut stuff. IMHO, it's part of the genius of Pixar.

I agree... My 4 year-old son loved it for one set of reasons, I liked it a lot for those plus another set of reasons. If you're an avid race fan (I am, though certainly not just NASCAR) then you'll notice there are a lot of clever touches and humor that would be lost on most other people. In reality, very little of the movie contains racing scenes, so if you're not a race fan don't worry that it's all going to be about racing. Overall it was a great movie, fun and entertaining.
