For several weeks they preferred to stay out in the reeds away from the bank of the lake while they were mating -I couldn't even find individuals close to shore. Then it got hot here (into the 30s C -that's 90s F for those of you who are metric challenged ) and the damselflies have moved out into the reeds around the bank. I spotted 5 individual males hunting in one area that was only a few meters in diameter and that single mating pair -the most damselflies I've seen in a single day all year...

I shot in aperture priority and under exposed by -2/3 of a stop, plus set my MT-24 macro flash to -1 1/3 exposure compensation. The colors saturate (due to under exposing) and I get just enough flash to fill in the shadows without blowing out the bugs...
