Sometimes brids are difficult to spot because of the colors but nothing escapes
my stalking lens.

Both taken while testing the "Sunny 16" rule which suggest f/8 by moderate shadows.

I hope you enjoy them as much as me.

    Nice captures, Dick! thumb.gif

Have you considered trying a faster shutter speed? You've done remarkably well at 1/100s at 400mm. You have plenty of headroom in your ISO and aperature settings to get those speeds up if you wanted to, which might make them even a bit more crisp. Just a thought.

    Thanks Joel.

Normally I shoot much faster but these are some test-shots trying to play with the Sunny 16 rule which is 1/ISO. I like how they came out. If it was not for the VR, the 1/100 is much too slow at 400mm.

Very nice, Dick! I like the setting, the texture of the wood, the dappled lighting and the way the bird is almost camouflaged with the branch. thumb.gif

Pretty good shots. You may want to consdier the better beamer and the SB-600 or SB-800. That would help a bit on those shots in the shadows.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

...because I was testing the "Sunny 16" rule, I didn't use my SB600. Afterwards I liked the pictures even without the fill-flash.

    These are beautiful Dick.
I like how the colors blend with the surroundings, but your sharp focus brings them out.
    Well donethumb.gif
