Hi, does the blown sky ruin this pic or would it be considered acceptable?

    hey bigsky-

I would think on a pic like this it would be fine-

I mean, that's what you would be seeing with the nekkid eye, right?-

this is definitely not the definitive answer-

    btw, nice pic--

    and-

why not start posting your pics thru your smugmug account-

I think it would be easier and the pics will show as the thread is being replied to-

I think the how to is under the how to-

You couldn't take that picture without blowing some of it. The sun is a specular highlight. They're pretty much supposed to be blown. Could you have blown the sky less? Probably. Does it bother me? Not too much, the picture has interest.

doesn't bother me at all, in this case. great subject - infact, some could say the blown sky adds to it, drawing attention through contrast.

Thank you for your comments everyone, I have a bit of a hang up with blown areas and spent hours in PP going around in circles trying to maintain foreground and sky details headscratch.gif

I opted to leave that portion of the sky blown as I didn't want the windmill to just be a silhouette.

Also thanks for pointing out the smugmug image linking thingamyjigamy George, I've edited the post.

I think it's a great picture and the blow-out doesn't bother me at all.

Oh, yeah - blown sky is OK in situations like this. There is no way you are ever going to be able to shoot at the sun and keep both the foreground and the sun within dynamic range. Besides, like others have said, this is what you would see if you were standing there and able to see both the sun and the foreground and the same time.

Sunsets with the sun in the image are the same sort of thing.

So, relax and enjoy your picture. I know I sure like it!

I've finished PP on the other images I took on this trip, I've increased the saturation quite a bit but I don't think it's overdone.

Here are a couple of others:-
