In 1987 England was hit by a hurricane & we lost many beautiful trees. Here's one victim from my local park

I would not have guessed that from the shot alone. The OOF branch in the foreground distracts from the rest of the shot and I just don't get anything from the shot as is. Maybe to relay the story behind the downed trees better you could show a downed tree with roots exposed in front of a tree that is still standing. Maybe that would work, maybe it wouldn't ne_nau.gif. I think some of the best photos I have seen convey an emotion or a story. How to get images like that? I'm still working on that part.

Good point. However I was actually practising with my new camera so was trying out different settings - central focus, left hand focus etc. I was trying to show the length of the tree by focusing in the middle. The other thing was the roots of the tree were just on a curve of a hill & if I'd tried to take the roots I wouldn't have got the length of a tree as I would have been below eye level of the fallen body of the tree (I'm only 5'3" & didn't have a tripod with me). Something to think about in another pic perhaps :): Thanks for the input
