A Day in the Park

I'm getting grumpy looking for humor shots. I took myself to Piedmont Park last weekend. Nothing made me laugh, but the sun was setting and so I grabbed a few shots.

Here's my first attempt at a macro, using the 100mm lens I got a while ago. I missed the light I really wanted, but this is an OK start. I'd go back this weekend, but I'm not sure the leaves will still be there.

OK, this one here's my attempt at something different to the normal snapshot. Going for a little surreal mood thing, I guess. If ya'll like it, I'll start sporting a beret.

Next up is a more traditional attempt at a landscape. I must have shot this sucker six ways from Sunday (actually, Saturday,) dunno if I ever got it right. I've been playing with my inexpensive 35 f2, and it's forcing me to compose with my feet, not my zoom. BTW, this is a shot that was too large to upload to smugmug, so I reduced it. Not sure if it's affected the image quality or not.

Now we're walking back to the bike, ready to go home. Not much light in the sky. But this high school stadium has lines that I really like. Someday I hope to be on the deserted field, at night with the lights on, as a mist settles in. It will make for a dramatic shot. Someday. In the meantime, this will have to do. I notice banding on my work monitor, I don't see it on my home monitor. Dunno why it's there, I hope you guys don't see it.

And finally, this is the alcove to a movie theater where I park the bike to walk to the park. I liked the shadows, that's all.

Like the first shot for the color and showing of age and decay . . . very nice fall color . . .

Like the last shot which contrasts the first pic so much. Concrete, solid, will be there forever probably.

Thanks Peter, glad to have you here. I haven't seen your work, yet. Got any good links to posts here?

    Waxy,

Love the one of the light standard and of the movie theatre.

For what it's worth, I'm having a difficult time with the humor theme as well.
Maybe I should submit the picture of me from Spokane :D

    Sid,
I like the first and the last. You must have been in a rather strange mood that day. The leaf has beautiful color and very sharp contrast in the shadows. The tattered appearance hints at the end of the color season.

The tree with the shadow is kind of different. I'm not sure what you mean by the beret. Artist? Anyway it's different for you.

The last one with the shadows is my favorite. More like you. I've been into shadows lately too. Very nice composition.

    nod.gif Yup, beret = artist. :D

Thanks for the nice words. Something about the columns was bugging me, so I've tried a crop. Dunno what y'all think, but I reckon I prefer it.
