I've always liked this affect though I know it's been done over and over again. As my first attempt, I thought I might share it. Please feel free to comment.
Thanks and happy 4th! :clap

Nice one Michael.
You're planning to upgrade to Dslr?
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the compliments. Actually this is from my 30D. Only because I'm curious, is there something about the shot that makes it look as though it was not taken with a D-SLR? Honestly I've not been entirely happy with the level of detail that I've gotten from the camera at this point and am beginning to wonder if it is just the difference between a $1500 30D (8+ MP) versus a $2000 + (12+ MP) camera like a 5D (or equivelant in another manufacturer). Any ideas to that point or is it the operator?
I'm no expert by any means, but there is a little adjusting to do when you go from a point and shoot to a DLSR. Mainly in the post processing area. The dslr shots always have to be sharpened and usually a little contrast and saturation added depending on your settings. Do some searching, both here and Google, about post processing. I know someone can explain it much better than I can.
This shot looks like it could use a little sharpening.
Hope this helps, that's a very good camera and you'll eventually be pleased with it. I have the Digital Rebel and I'm happy with it, just wish I could afford about 6 more lenses:):
Jeff - That's a very good point. I forgot all about that. I will get that corrected ASAP.
ebwest - Thank you for the pointers. I will give a bit of sharping a try and see if I can't improve the picture. I know I've got a lot to learn about post-processing and I really appreciate the feedback.
