The Taste of Minnesota puts on a fireworks display every night that it runs.
These were from monday night.

Not great, but not to bad.

The big finish

I'm not real sure how to do the post on these.
If I try to increase the contrast, the pretty colors turn more to white.
If I decrease the contrast, the colors change almost to a pastel.
I'll keep trying. I'll get closer to what I want as time goes by.

Thanks for looking.

Oh I really love these! I like that you put the BG in too, instead of just the fireworks and the black, gives it more depth if you know what I mean. Even my two year old said Ohhhh Pretties when I opened the thread:D

Boy, I don't see room for improvement in these, Dave. I especially like the first shot that doesn't focus just on the fireworks but the entire area. Plus, the smoke hasn't begun to fog up the shot!! Love seeing the city and the ferris wheel in the lower right and all the little "diamond lights". Beautiful shot!!! clap.gif

The last two are very very nice. Fireworks mentally are so great ... that it is very difficult to capture with a thin slice of time, an image to represent what we mentally vision/remember over the entire show. I like your shots, once again the last two draw you into the photo and I could smell the explosives.

    Wow
These are great!!! What are you complaining about? Your exposure is "right on" too! I think you did a great job, and I love the setting too.

    Nancy, Dee, Thanks.

I'm not complaining, I just said that they weren't great.

As for the exposure being right on, lets just say that PSE4 with highlights/shadows
    helped quite a bit. :D

Alright my question is how did you get the green ones to show up? I shot just about everything in Indy the other night. While I got much more blue than I did last year mostly eveything showed up in red or white. Any suggestions? I can post a couple if needed. Thanks!

I wish I could share my secrets with you, but I don't have any.

The only thing I can suggest is to not use USM.
When I used it, a lot of the colors turned white.
Instead I took the sharpen tool and went over what needed to be sharpened,
and left the fireworks themselves alone.
I did up the saturation a little also.

Replying to my own post just doesn't seem right.

I had to try changing one of the pics to B&W just to see what it would look like.

    I think it holds up.

B&W (removed color, then gradient map for contrast)
