Ok, I know you all are probably sick of flower macro shots by now, but I thought this flower at the train station was pretty cool.
Is that why my flower macro did not generate one single mail?
Are flower macro's "not done"?
Oh, I love flower and plant macros, mainly because they're always different, and have a lot of potential detail to be captured. I just remember seeing a few flower macro threads that went nuts...something like 100 posts in one of them. That's the only reason I made that comment.
Nice pic by the way. the dew really adds some cool texture.
Thanks... it is dew actually. Or rain. It was a gray day again (I live in UK), and thought that the day would be lost for pictures. But I came home with this one. I think this is one of the best shots I ever took. (Or am I bragging now?). I think I probably will never take one like it again.
Since that day, I rather go out on overcast days to shoot flowers. No hideous shadows that ruin everything.

Flower shots are quite welcome - There have been several threads on dgrin devoted to flowers. A search should turn up many. And you are right that grey overcast days are good days for detail close up shots and that includes flowers too.
That is the flower. i look around for a perfect one to shoot but so far not .i shot this one on a shoot for fun far from a good one
Ahh, cool! I was wondering what the heck kind of flower it was. It is probably the coolest looking flower I've ever seen. Did you have to go far to find one? Do they grow natively or are they exotic? They had the things planted all over the place at Union Station, Los Angeles, CA.
That flower is a "Bird of Paradise". Very interesting plant...quite nondescript when it's not blooming.
Plants are one of my favorite subjects.
Hey photocat...I was checking out your smugmug animals gallery and you've got some GREAT shots of your cats. I forwarded the link onto my 10yo son, who also loves cats. We've got two cats that are extremely difficult to shoot (no, not with bullets). One is your basic black domestic shorthair and the other is a tortie-point medium hair siamese. The black one is impossible to properly expose and the tortie is impossible to properly focus because of the fur. Fun to keep trying tho.

I have to confess, that was unintentional. Now that you point it out, it does seem to help draw the attention to the flower. Everyone here has such great comments that it makes me learn so much from my own photographs. I love it. Thank you.

I am lucky with my two cats. They are hanging furballs. I can dangle the camera on macro about 2 inches from their nose, but they are not interested. They see me with a camera always, and they usually are very patient... I took shots from a black dog this week, and all I see is his nose and black hair. A big black blob with a nose.
Beautiful flower shots! The 'Bird of Paradise' is lovely.
I am also a huge fan of macro flower shots..... here's this arvo's effort in that regard .....

Ohhh! Cool shot. I like the lighting. Seems to be back-lit a little.

Fish - set your 10D to use the center focusing spot and set your exposure compensation to -1 2/3 ( minus one and 2/3 ) stops - The meter in your camera will overexpose a black animal, so dial back with exposure compensation, or meter off a 18% grey card. This should help get better results for ya....
