This is social, complex isssue - people do not know how to talk with each other. I've titled this photograph "Girl, I'm talking to you". These two people were together. In fact they had a conversation. Observe the body langugage.

To tell the truth, while the shot is clear and crisp and contrasted just right to catch the eye I don't like it without your intro. I like it as a shot to study the body language of people, as you look closer it is interesting to note the things you brought up, but at first I wasn't interested in it.
I think, and I know this is a candid shot, if you had taken it from the angle where we could see the girls disinterested face turned away from this earnest man it would have been better.
You did a nice job on capturing and introducing and converting to bw, so kudos and keep it up.
