ch 68: Tell-tales

Getting this shot was a "challenge", since the sail boat was constantly moving up and down, and the sun was out. I used ND filters so I could use a slower shutter speed, and I relied on the IS of the 70-200 F2.8 IS lens to compensate for the boat motion. Unfortunately, there wasn't a ton of wind to make the tell-tales really flutter.
EXIF

What do you think? I'm not sure I like the crop, so any suggestions on that would also be appreciated.

I think its quite a "graphic" photo. Not sure if its my monitor but the colour & contrast seems a bit weak. Maybe you could up that a bit & it might give it a bit more "oomph"

    Is this better?
I took vangogh's suggestions and boosted the contrast and saturation. I also fiddled with the crop.

I hope this makes the cut-or, at least, I hope this doesn't fail to make the cut for a lack of blurriness. I really like the subtlety of the challenge theme interpretation. No critiques come to mind, so: good luck thumb.gif

I like the crop, but I like crops like that. I personally think it looks much better. It shows the blur more clearly.

Yeah the motion blur is very apparent in this photo, it def fits the challenge criteria. I like the new crop as well. However, I'm not sure what I'm looking at. Is it an area of a sail on a boat? I would include something naval'ish to the title for the viewer to be able to connect to what they're looking at much easier. Like 'Flows Free in the Sea', or something. I'm sur eyou can really creative with that part. Overall, thats a nice subtle entry. I like it. Good luck thumb.gif

The tell-tales are on the sail near the leading edge. There's one on each side. When they are both flying parallel to the horizon, then the sail is trimmed just right, which means its getting the most power possible from the wind.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll add something to the description.
