okay, the review of the Canon D30 said that the shutter is more durable than the 20D and will last for 100,000 cycles...what are cycles? is that like shots?! ONLY 100,000? I know that sounds like a ton...but when considering how much I take photos...I think that'll go really fast. is what I'm thinking right? doubtful, but I'm wonderin'?!

Ginger got 90,000 odd out of her 20d over a couple of years before the shutter gave up the ghost- I think she is trying to shoot less but better now-a shutter rebuild is not a cheap exercise,as the camera has to be almost completely dismantled to get the shutter out.

I felt that I was shooting too much when I clocked over 10,000 a few weeks back, and then counted keepers and sellers.

My resolution is to increase my ratio-that is shoot more keepers for less shutter actuations

what happens happens after 100,000 shots?!

The shutter will just fail. And 100,000 is not an exact number, it's an estimated number, meaning that 100,000 shutter clicks is about what you will get until it breaks. It could go over that number, or it could happen sooner. Just depends on your luck I guess. Everyhting is bound to break eventually!

FWIW, I've heard that some shutters can last well beyond 200,000 acuations with little or no degredation. The worry for me then, is dead pixels more than anything.

Personally, it would take me around two years of heavy duty work to get to that many shutter acuations, even with some sessions going well over 1000-1500 pictures!

Personally I don't worry about it. I'm probably already closing in on my 20D's rating in just a year-and-a-half. I'll shoot until it dies, then decide whether to replace the shutter (getting it to Canon Irvine will be a will-call for me :) ) or the whole camera.
