Overcast and windy day. I was freezing even with a wind breaker ... ten miles inland in the 90's+ ... go figure. First attempt at birds and I was disappointed with my results ... back to the drawing board. Here is one I kinda liked:

Interesting shot. I have experimented with B&W treatments of some of my egret shots but haven't come up with one I was happpy with yet. Nice work. thumb.gif

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

mmmmh, essentially yeah ... wasn't on my game that day ... but I do a lot of B&W conversions in my normal processing. There are times when I have been tempted to shoot in B&W only.

Not a bad B&W, but I'm like Harry I've tried a couple here and there with not much success. ne_nau.gif

Bolsa fools most new visitors as it doesn't seem as bright as it is.
During the summer even at 4pm on I'm usually down from .7 to 1+ stop EV on most white birds. The main reason this happens is your shooting from shade but your subject is in bright light over the water, made even brighter by the reflection from the water.

On Skimmers it's a bit different because you want detail in the blacks. I normally shot only .3 to .7 EV. I will accept a tiny bit of blown area. Then during post I'll dial down the blown areas and bring out as much detail in the darks as I can by using D-Lighting or LCH Editor or both.

    Hope that helps.

I'm sure that it will be just a matter of time. I am returning to Bolsa Chica and maybe get serious this time ... maybe some panning. More B&W to come :<)
