okay....when it comes to Digital SLRs....I know....um....nothing :uhoh .

however, I want to get one in order to learn. and I need help.

I've found this on Ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=018&item=280002965314&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1) I think the 30D is the one I'm going to get, so it will last me...forever. haha. do you think that sounds like a good deal (that link up there)

it comes with a few lenses and filters and bags and a tripod..all for about 200-300 more than, say, Adorama.

Any comments...I really need some help, this is a big step.

I've got the sigma 70-300 lens that's included in the package. It's not a very good lens. Sells for $120 new at sigma4less.com.

Don't know about quality but the sigma 28-70 2.8-4.0 only sells for $70 at sigma4less.com

    A Canon 30D w/18-55 lens at B&H is only $1369.

Most of the accessory stuff probably won't be worth much to you after you get shooting with the camera - it looks like low end stuff or low value.

Looks like an okay deal but you might want to be selective and only pick lenses and accesories that you're going to care about after the first couple of weeks.

Ross Please read this thread http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=374

It points out several concerns about this auction. For one LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION. Buying from "dealers" in new york that aren't reputable isn't a good idea. Also Read the sellers feedback. I see alot of things in the feedback that would concern me. Even if they are positive read the comments. And the "professional" lenses they are "including" are a joke. If you shopped wise you could most likely get all of the same stuff from reputable vendors for the same price or less. And alot of the items in the kit you wouldn't even want to buy cause they are not that great in quality. When things seem really cheap, there's a reason. His ebay comments alone would prevent me from spending that kinda money there.

Won't speak about the reputation of the seller. But you are a neophyte to dSLR. Most people that are/get passionate about photography all travel about the same expensive path regarding lenses. They start with the "kit" lens (the one that is packaged with the camera). Then start buying long zommie lens (because that's what they see all the press guys use on TV) ... then ... a wide angle ... they look for "value" ... the lenses they buy usually are crappy ... finally ... as the passion gets greater they end up replacing cheapo lenses with better lenses ... ultimately ending up with very expensive "pro" level lenses.

My point is if you know you will be a nut about photography, then skip the wasteful in between stages and start buying pro level lenses. If you are unsure ... then this is probably a pretty good package for a beginner ... (great camera ... crappy lenses ... but at 6x4 should be okay ... complete with a wide angle extender ??? something like that ... something I've never heard for a SLR ... remember that pro level lenses can cost more than your camera ... most won't but many do).

I definitely agree wit hthe rest here. That $200-300 of extra for the gear is wasted--IMHO it's all junk that you'll end up tossing for decent items soon after. Just remember that the lens is more important than the body (like with that kit you'll probably get worse results than somebody with an old Rebel or D60 with L glass on it). Stick with reputable dealers & pick the lenses that you actually need. I have no idea if that seller is any good or not, but I personally wouldn't mess with them as the fraud risk seems high to me.
