Anyone has a slight idea of what techniques Gregory Crewdson is using in order to get those amazing shots, must be a mix of photoshop and field techniques but WHAT?!?
Just a guess
I would guess natural light and staged lighting then some painting with light for details and airbrush the fog in. Very nice work. Dramatic.
Of course, if you have the budget and time for setup, the whole thing could be done in real life.

Edit to add:
I should have done a Google search first. It seems he does complete setups. An NPR link you can read.
