Nice! I haven't been back to visit my "old friends" at the Getty since it re-opened. Looks like they've done a magnificent job of displaying and lighting. Can't wait to go! I was thinking as I was looking at your gallery, how cool it would be to go back and photograph the patrons as they observe these haunted souls. It would be interesting to inter-mingle their expressions along side of the scupture. Great job, Gary! clap.gif

Thanks Skippy. Many ancient cultures, i.e. Greeks and Romans, would liven up their sculptures by inlaying bright pieces of stone, gems and/or shells into the eyes ... well many even brightly painted their statues also.

The Getty Villa was a very interesting place.

    Hello.
I like the picture but I see it a little bit too dark. May be it's my monitor...

300 tickets are released everyday at 9am ... you can reserve a ticket online. I thought about shooting the viewers as well ... "inter-mingling" the living with those frozen in time ... but the sculptures were calling to me and candid shots of the partons would have been a much more difficult task ... so I took the path most traveled.

The other day, when I was photographing the curches in Setubal you said something like I was gooing to curches very often now.
This gave me an ideia: photograph all the churches in Setubal.
Today I have been talking to a priest to ask him permission to photograph the church.
I'll have to go back there on tuesday to "re-talk".
But the 1.st impression was: Well, you know security ... May be if...
    I will insist.
Can you photograph works of art in America ?
Can you photograph art inside a museum ?
    Regards Gary. thumb.gif

Very Good Antonio, a portfolio of Setubal churchs!!!!

There isn't any law in the United States which states that one cannot photograph art for private use. There are copywrite laws which will not allow a person to commercially exploit another person's art.

Museum photography is all a matter of the individual museum. Some museums allow photography and some do not. In some museums you can photograph certain rooms but cannot photograph other rooms. I think that most museums will allow non-flash/non-tripod photography.

    That sounds reasonable ...

The lighting was pretty standard overhead museum type stuff. I did burn in some shadows to build up the drama ... trying to bring the stone and bronze to life.

    Thanks for looking.

Well you did a great job doing it. My first thought while looking at the gallery was how close they were to actual portraits of people.

Most of the statues were of people (not Gods or fictional characters) ... this person's wife, so-n-so the merchant, thiis person's son, et cetera (lol ... slipping into Latin) ... so in actuality I did take portraits of people ... or maybe we're saying the same thing...
