Bright flower!

First try at masking out the background and changing to grayscale.

Nice job on the masking Peter. I think I'd try to get the flower a little off center though. Daisies are hard to do. Maybe a flower and a bud would be good. Anything to break up that dead center target look.:D Nice lighting too.

. . . good point, here is something else I tired. In this case I outlined and copied the flower and added it to a photo of 2 other flowers (which I also converted the background to grayscale. . .icon10.gif

    Love the second one!

I don't suppose you could give me a blow by blow description on how to do the b/w back ground thing? I've posted a thread on it and tried to do it myself from the suggestions that people made, but still can't work it out!???!!! I'm a PS dummy! I think its the layering thing that I still can't figure out .... Only if you have time ......

I've got a nice daisy bush out the front I want to try this with now! Thanks for the inspiration...... :D

Hi Kate . . . I use Corel PhotoPaint for working on the images. But let me check with my PS to see how similar the masking process is . . . will let you know :-)

    Quick lesson . . .
Hi Kate, put this together for you . . . hope it helps. I am not a regular user of PS . . . so if I missed something, forgive me . . . lol.

If you have an older version of PS and don't have the Desaturation option, let me know . . .

Really love this second one. Three always makes a nice balance.thumb.gif

When I do this type of b&w conversion, I use the magnetic lasso and trace around the flower. If I didn't get it all clean, I use the magic wand to get the little pieces. When the flower is all outlined, I click select>inverse. This selects the background. Then I desaturate to b&w. This seems to work quicker on busy backgrounds with lots of colors.

Thanks Snappy . . . the magnetic lasso sure does work quicker and better. Never used it before but just tested it on the flower pic . . . works great :-)

    Have a great day!
