baseball - facial expressions

My dear hubbie was talking up my sports shooting hobby to a colleage and I got my 1st paid shoot:clap It was an evening game for an all-star tournament. I typically shoot soccer and x-country, so I did a practice shoot before I agreed (to make sure I was happy w/ what I could do); liked what I captured and so it was on:D

There were some very expressive boys on this team and I loved some of the facial expressions, so thought I'd share...

#1: the effort of throwing

    Colleen -

You got some great shots for just one game! Your title "facial expressions" fits very well!

Thanks for the comments Kevin, I was happy w/ what I got (and from what I hear, so were the parents). Considering this was the 1st full game I've done, it felt good. Need to work more on getting good action (i.e., ball in frame), but baseball seems to lend itself to good individual shots. Unfortunately, this lead came late in the season, but hopefully I'll get more opportunities next year.

Wow! Nicely done. Just a few comments, try to keep a very shallow DOF to blur out the background as much as possible (1st shot). A tad too much air above the runner head (3rd I think). But these are very minor adjustments especially in light of the wonderful expressions you captured. Keep on shooting.

Thanks Seefutlung! I know what you mean about the shallow DOF. I shoot w/ the Canon 100-400, typically on aperature priority, so when I'm at the long end, I'm stuck at 5.6 - thus the bkgd. Maybe one of these days I'll move up to a telephoto prime...

    cheers,

    Hi Lorrie,

thanks for dragging up this old thread for your 1st post! I was really happy w/ what I got that day, but haven't had a chance to shoot any more baseball since then, so I am looking forwards to starting up again. I noticed from your site that your (pony league?) is already underway? But I think some of your links are not working (i.e., the home, info, and "about me" pages all bring up the same slide show - are you just getting started?)

hope to see more of your shots.

    cheers,

    C.

    hiya Grampswave.gif

welcome aboard and I'm glad you joined in. You got some great expressions there on the players toothumb.gif (but, if I might suggest, you might want to crop down the pitcher into a portrait orientation - it would help clean up the background, particularly the coach talking to the 2nd baseman)

    Hi Colleen,

Yes, my site is still in it's creation state. Still figuring out where I want stuff. As far as the Pony League - Our season starts March 1st. The pics that are online right now are only of my kids from last season (as placeholders)

Funny! I have a almost 15 year old who makes those same faces too...but he's not playing baseball! Hahahah just kidding. He's a third baseman for the High School...and it's funny to see the facial expressions.

Here is one where he thinks he's superman...although...impressive, he made the catch...but didn't get the kid out. The catcher threw the ball a little over his head...good thing my son was able to adjust and jump for it. Had he not caught the ball...the runner would've made it home. Way to go...that's my kid!cheerleader.gif I taught him all he knows! Heheehehethumb.gif
