Hi Y'all,

One set of tri-color herons were real late to the party at the rookery. By the time they got started on their nest all the ebst spots were taken so they had to build their nest in a tree that was about 2-3 feet from the boardwalk. This allowed me to get rather close to the nest to get some shots. All of these shots were at about 52mm with my 28-70 lens and the SB-800 flash.

Mom finally got tired of all this picture taking and put her butt down

Some nasty "bed head" on them chicks. rolleyes1.gif I recall a tri color nest a couple feet from the boardwalk at Gatorland. It was quite a view. Nicely done Harry.

The last one is excellent Harry. To bad there wasn't more light so you could have gotten more DOF to see the little ones a bit better.

This brings up a question. Is this late in the season for hatchlings and if so,
    is the survival rate good?

    Nice series.

Thanks Nick. The nest was in a tree and completely in the shadows. Light was a real issue for these shots.

    Nice series.

It is rather late in the season for them Ian but it shouldn't impat on their survival rate. There were only two chicks in the nest who were the same size so they shouldn't harass each other too much. In a closed environmnent like the rookery they should do fine.
