using old glass on new body: Nikon D50 and Nikkor-Q 200/f4

I believe it should work, but it does not. I have several early '80 vintage lenses that fit fine on my new D50....but the oldest glass won't mount: 1966 vintage Nikkor-Q 200/f4. It does sit flat against the mounting ring but it won't rotate. Mounts just fine on old F2 film bodies. Any clue?

just tighter tolerances back in the 60's....fits fine. looks pretty rad!

From the looks of the metering prong, you're trying to mount a pre-AI lens. And, I suspect your aperture ring, on that lens, is solid all the way around, right? If you try to mount pre-AI lenses on a digital body, you run the risk of doing damage to the body. AI and AIS lenses should be no problem.
