Keyword search order question

If i do a search for "windmill" It returns just over 1300 images.

My image http://stuarthill.smugmug.com/photos/73128920-L.jpg appears on page 36 of that search.

My question is what causes an image to be on page 1 as opposed to say page 36?

All of my images with that keyword are then fairly close to each other how does this work?

Not unlike other search engines, it's a bit complex, a bit proprietary. I don't even know all the ins and outs, Stu. I'll see what I can find out - no promises though.

Thanks Andy just wondered as it would be good to know if something moves it up like views or comments etc.

appears to me that the most recently uploaded pics are displayed first...

Wondering if dmc was right about keyword search results order. I reckon, too, that latest uploads appear first.

A keyword gallery is sorted by "date KW was added to photo". 1st in gallery is latest added.
