Making a gallery sub-category private?

I'd like to make an entire gallery sub category private.

Ex:

Category: Sports
--Sub category: Football
----Gallery 1
----Gallery 2
--Sub category: Soccer
----Gallery 1
----Gallery 2
--Sub category: Basketball
----Gallery 1
----Gallery 2

How can I make only "Basketball" and all of its galleries not visible to the public?

    categories and sub-categories don't have attributes. they are simply attributes of the gallery. security settings are by gallery only.

    So I would either have to delete that entire sub cat, or make it appear empty by making all of it's galleries private?

    Correct - make the galleries private is the way.
