Some recent macro shots of various bugs.

Thought this fly shot looked a bit like one of those "Stubbs" type horse portraits
My best yet attempt at a damselfly in flight
Only noticed after this Marmalade hoverfly has a slash wound across the top of it's abdomen
Crop from shot of same hoverfly
Fly on a magic roundabout
Some rubbish attacking one of my flowers- ID'd as a lacewing larva
Crop from above- has interesting simple eye unlike the adult
Uncropped shot of one of my favourite large hovers- Volucella zonaria

Hey there Brian...... another excellent series from you
I love the head on the last fly you posted, that is quite different to the others.... is he a larger variety to the other hoverflies you posted ???

Yes the last shot is a large hover- it's only shot at 1:1 or to give you better idea it's about the size of a large bumblebee. I'd guess the body length was about 2cms. I gather hovers are much rarer out there than in the UK and the species although looking similar to some of ours are actually different species.

Are these crops, or original size?

Sid- the damselfly is about a 50% crop- the others are essentially uncropped except where it says it is a crop.
