Summers evening over English Fields

I took this this evening and was really pleased until I saw the red splodge of lens flare on the frontmost bale. Firstly could I have prevented this with a polorising filter, and secondly would it be easy to remove in photoshop, if so which method would best maintain the integrity of the image?
Or black and white?

For the flare...that's a tough one. I'm not very knowledgeable in it but here's what I do know - filters will always make it worse, and the higher end lenses have some things built in to help prevent it such as the concave glass on the front, but I think that's at higher angles to the sun.
At this angle, it's nearly impossible (as far as I know). If I see it, and I can't get rid of it, I'll usually angle the camera so the flare is lined up with the sun to make it disappear, then crop accordingly later.
Great shot!

All in all, I like it!
